Scariff is situated near the shore of Scariff Bay on Lough Derg, and a navigable canal leads from the lake to Scariff Harbour.

It is an ideal base for fishing, as the nearby lakes , which number about twenty, contain such fish as pike, bream, perch, trout, eel and tench.

Golfing, horseriding, boating and sailing are all available in the locality
and boats can be arranged for hire.

Scariff is within easy reach of Shannon Airport, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Ailwee Caves, Knappogue Castle and Craganowen.
